Welcome to the beta issue of 100eyes, a new web publication aimed at bringing compelling photography to the web, covering a wide range of issues and photographic styles. My aim with 100eyes is to eventually have the magazine edited by photographers and picture editors who are committed to the work they present, in many cases, alongside their own.

The current beta called Dis’ and Dat, and will allow me to present great imagery and still tinker with the organization and presentation of the site. The page entitled ‘Dis and Dat’ features pictures uploaded by subscribers which you can do on the ‘Upload’ page.

100eyes also has a moderated message board and knowledge center where you can find and share information about photography and the locations it may bring you to, and link to your own work. And if you want more than that, sections of 100eyes magazine are available where you can submit your own work and present it to your peers. There will be a section for each issue for uploading and discussing pictures on the magazine’s monthly theme, as well as a separate feature that will solicit submissions on themes of the day or week.

For those who may be so inclined, 100eyes offers workshops with top photographers all over the world. Many of these workshops will involve themes that will be explored in future issues of the magazine. As a photographer of some 30 years, I know as well as you do that the world of photography is changing seeming at the speed of light. Photographers are increasingly required to use their ingenuity in bringing their work to their peers and the public. Never have the resources for doing so been so meagre. But at the same time we know have tools that allow us to use our own ingenuity and ideas to accomplish things that would have been unheard of ten years ago– like this site, for instance, that is built through my own sweat equity, using some of the great new, and often free, tools available for web development.

  1. How do I submit work here? I am very much enjoying this Dis Dat.

  2. I was at Mardi Gras a few years ago, and I was amazed at what lengths people would go to, to catch worthless beads made in China. This picture by Moore really brought that back to me.

    Robert Tawney — March 13, 2009

  3. Andy, cool, looks good, a little confusion, how does it work?

    Stefan Rohner — March 13, 2009

  4. Stefan, as far as the site goes, the current issue is #1, which I am looking at as a ‘beta’ issue. There are going to be glitches and I want to tweak the organization as we go along adding content to the first issue– there will be another portfolio later today I hope by architectural art photographer Frank Relle. These current stories are listed under “This Issue” and I will be adding to these. There is also a feature called “Dis n’ Dat” the theme of which is “Got Money.” Registered users can upload images to “Dis and Dat” and they a can be viewed by anyone as a slideshow or as thumbnails. This page is open to anyone. Future issues are thematic and some will have guest curators. One issue is definitely slotted for prisons and Donna Ferrato has promised to curate an issue on sex. Feedback of course is welcome– and there is a message board that you can access at the top of the page.
