The West Bank is a landlocked territory and is the eastern Part of the Palestinian territories on the west bank of the River Jordan in the Middle East. Since 1967, most of the West Bank has been under Israeli military occupation.
The future status of the West Bank, together with the Gaza Strip on the Mediterranean shore, has been the subject of negotiation between the Palestinians and Israelis, although the current Road Map for Peace, proposed by the “Quartet” comprising the United States, Russia, the European Union, and the United Nations, envisions an independent Palestinian state in these territories living side by side with Israel. However, the “Road Map” states that in the first phase, Palestinians must end all attacks on Israel, whereas Israel must dismantle outposts. Since neither condition has been met since the Road Map was “accepted,” by all sides, the situation on the ground stays the same…..as the conflict shows no signs of ending, any time soon.
IDF reservists must “give” almost 30 days a year to their country, this includes serving in the occupied territories in order to execute the Israeli government policy……..some refuse to do it, others believe that no matter what, the loyalty to their country is above all ideological debate…….
A reservist is a person who is a member of a reserve military force. They are otherwise civilians, and in peacetime have careers outside the military. Reservists usually go for training on an annual basis to refresh their skills. This person is usually a former active-duty member of the armed forces, and he remains a reservist either voluntarily, or by obligation.
All Israeli men are required to serve three years in the military and stay in the reserves for another 25. So underneath their green uniforms, there’s a colorful cross-section of Israel.
“We have everyone from taxi drivers to plumbers to lawyers to bankers,”
And they’re not immune to the realities of war. After all, the two soldiers Hezbollah kidnapped were reservists. The enemy doesn’t discriminate. Bullets don’t care if you’re just a part-time soldier.
Around the Israeli reservist service formed a rich folklore, the reservist was described as a soldier with a good heart, a bit lazy with a sense of humor, and ingenuity, who volunteers to serve his country motivated by highly ideological ideals.
After the second Lebanon war (2006) the Israeli government decided to increase reservists duty and training as part of rehabilitation of the army, in order to be well prepared for the next war
