Even though living in an dirty environment, it is very important for the proud folk to stay clean themselves.
In the background you can see the living spaces of Cité Soleils habitants were often up to 10 people share one little room. The big empty, but dirty space that surrounds Landa belongs to the public toilet of the neighborhood. “Cité Soleil” (tranlation: City of sun) sounds beautiful but is dirty, poor and rife with diseases. In Haiti they say, that the slum got the name from their instability during rain-season. “It is located next to the sea and due to storms and rain the houses are destroyed often. Cité Soleil can only subsist when the sun is shining – therefor its name.”
